Architecture meets traditional craft

The right jewellery can totally transform an outfit, and this season we are particularly smitten with OTT rings.

One brand that is satisfying our need for chunky rings is Karma Salman. The Beirut-based house approaches jewellery like sculptures, regularly basing the design and framework on Lebanese antiquity.

Born in London and raised in Beirut, Karma Salman discovered the allure of jewellery at young age. She obtained a degree in Fine Arts from Beirut’s Lebanese American University, followed by a Master’s in Art Business from the Sotheby’s Institute of Art in London.

Having gained a “broad education” of the creative realm, she decided to focus her skills by enrolling at the GIA in London. She continued her journey with internships at renowned jewellers in Beirut, Selim Mouzannar and Nada Zaineh. This culminated in the launch of Karma’s namesake brand in 2015.

Her current collection is named Baalbeck, after the greatest Roman archaeological site in Lebanon. The design mimics the pillars of the monument and you can choose from plain gold and silver finish, to pieces with colourful stones.

Make a statement by playing around with how you layer them and don’t be afraid to go one step further. These pieces were designed to have fun with.
